U.S. and Iran Escalate Hostilities with Sea Drone Strikes and Expanded Blockade Threats

The military confrontation between the United States and Iran intensified on July 15–16, 2026, entering its sixth day of sustained hostilities. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) launched a wave of precision airstrikes targeting Iranian command centers, air defenses, and coastal reconnaissance sites in Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, and Greater Tunb Island. On the economic front, the U.S. Treasury has expanded sanctions to include seven individuals and entities tied to IRGC procurement and cryptocurrency sectors. While energy markets remain volatile due to rerouted tankers and limited traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, no ground operations have been announced by either side.
