U.S. Reinstates Iran Oil Sanctions and Launches Retaliatory Strikes

Speaking from a NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, the President characterized peace talks with Tehran as a 'waste of time' and immediately reinstated comprehensive oil sanctions. The U.S. revoked a previous 60-day waiver, effectively halting Iran's ability to sell oil legally and directing payments for previously shipped goods into blocked, interest-bearing accounts. The diplomatic rupture coincided with significant military action, as the U.S. launched dozens of strikes against Iranian coastal defenses and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) assets.
