While the intensive campaign phase has ended, the Trump administration has not declared the broader conflict resolved. Rubio highlighted internal fractures within the Iranian leadership as a primary obstacle to a diplomatic breakthrough, suggesting that competing factions in Tehran are complicating ceasefire compliance and negotiations. Despite the formal conclusion of the operation, the humanitarian situation in the Persian Gulf remains dire. Officials confirmed that 23,000 civilian sailors of 87 different nationalities are currently stranded due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, with at least 10 fatalities reported to date. The U.S. military continues 'Project Freedom,' a temporary defensive escort mission, but maintains that the responsibility for reopening the waterway lies solely with Iran.
