Trump Issues Ultimatum to Iran as U.S. Intensifies 'Operation Epic Fury'

President Donald Trump announced on March 31 that the United States is engaged in "serious discussions" with what he characterized as a "new and more reasonable" regime in Tehran. As part of a proposed 15-point peace plan, the President issued a strict ultimatum: Iran must reopen the Strait of Hormuz by April 6 or face the "obliteration" of its national energy grid. Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that while discussions are occurring, there is significant uncertainty regarding Iran's internal decision-making due to reported fractures within the country's leadership. On the military front, the U.S. continues "Operation Epic Fury," an air campaign that has targeted 170 sites in the past day alone. Current strikes have focused on degrading Iran's military capabilities, hitting approximately 40 defense industrial sites linked to missile and drone production. The conflict has also expanded regionally, with reports of Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) crossing into western Iran to support Basij bases in Khorramshahr. Meanwhile, the situation in Lebanon has deteriorated sharply. Following heavy exchanges between Hezbollah and Israel, Israeli officials announced plans to occupy southern Lebanon. The violence has resulted in over 1,000 deaths and the displacement of nearly one-fifth of the Lebanese population, leaving the Beirut government with limited options to address the escalating humanitarian crisis.
