Pakistan Efforts Diplomatic Shift Amid Heightened Israel-Iran Military Strikes

On March 29, Pakistan initiated a high-level diplomatic effort to de-escalate the ongoing conflict, hosting foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is leading discussions on a proposed 15-point peace plan. While Islamabad seeks to position itself as a neutral mediator, Iranian military leaders have previously rejected such frameworks, citing a refusal to compromise under current conditions. The diplomatic push comes immediately following a significant escalation in military activity. On March 27 and 28, Israeli forces conducted extensive airstrikes involving over 50 warplanes. These strikes targeted weapons production facilities and nuclear-linked sites in Arak and Yazd, as well as regime targets within Tehran. Iran responded with a major rocket barrage on Tel Aviv and a ballistic missile strike on Eshtaol, near Jerusalem, resulting in structural damage and light injuries. In response to the volatility, the Pentagon has bolstered its regional posture. Additional Marine units and naval forces have been positioned to provide 'maximum flexibility' for potential operations near the Strait of Hormuz and Kharg Island. While the U.S. has not engaged in direct military action within the last 24 hours, the heightened naval presence underscores the readiness for coastal or ground contingencies as the regional situation remains fluid.
