The United States military has initiated a massive air campaign, designated 'Operation Epic Fury,' targeting Iranian military infrastructure across the country. President Donald Trump announced that B-2 stealth bombers and advanced space-based technology were utilized to strike nearly 200 targets within a 72-hour window. A primary focus of the raid was Kharg Island, Iran’s most critical oil export hub, where military officials claim to have 'totally obliterated' military installations while intentionally sparing the oil production facilities. In response, Iranian military officials stated that the strike on Kharg Island crossed a definitive 'red line' for the Islamic Republic. Tehran has threatened to target any energy infrastructure operated by companies cooperating with the U.S. in the region, vowing to 'burn all your oil sites' if further strikes occur. Iranian-backed militias have reportedly already targeted the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, and Tehran has characterized U.S. bases in the UAE as legitimate military targets. The conflict has also severely impacted global shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reported that hundreds of oil tankers are currently 'dead in the water' or on fire within the waterway due to the escalating hostilities. To bolster regional security, the U.S. is deploying 2,500 Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit alongside the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli to provide rapid-response capabilities.
