Tensions between the United States and Iran escalated sharply over the last 24 hours as proxy militias intensified kinetic operations in Iraq. A missile strike targeted the helipad of the U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad, one of the largest American diplomatic missions globally. The attack, alongside a drone strike that killed a French soldier at an international coalition base, has led the embassy to renew its Level 4 security alert. These developments follow a series of persistent rocket and drone assaults by Iran-aligned groups against U.S. and allied targets. Concurrently, Tehran has issued formal warnings regarding the safety of regional energy infrastructure. Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, stated that U.S.-linked oil and energy facilities would be targeted if Iran’s own oil infrastructure is compromised. While recent explosions have reportedly damaged Iranian air defenses, naval bases, and helicopter hangars, official sources indicate that no primary oil infrastructure has been hit thus far. In response to the regional volatility, U.S. and Israeli forces conducted joint operations on March 13 aimed at degrading the Iranian regime’s repressive and defensive capabilities. Strikes were specifically directed at internal security infrastructure and air defense systems. These military actions represent a ongoing effort to weaken Tehran’s defensive posture amidst the heightened rhetoric and proxy escalations in neighboring Iraq.
