The Trump administration has significantly ramped up military pressure on Tehran, with President Trump announcing that U.S. forces have "totally obliterated" military targets on Kharg Island. While the island serves as the primary hub for Iran's oil network, the President noted that energy infrastructure was deliberately spared during the operation. However, the U.S. issued a stern warning that any Iranian attempts to disrupt maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz would result in direct strikes on those oil facilities. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reported that U.S. and Israeli forces have successfully engaged more than 15,000 targets since the onset of the current hostilities. Hegseth characterized recent Iranian maneuvers in the Strait of Hormuz as signs of "sheer desperation," claiming that Iran's leadership has been forced into hiding underground. To maintain this pressure, U.S. Central Command has deployed B-2 stealth bombers to the region with the specific mission of neutralizing threats and preventing the Iranian military from rebuilding its capabilities. On the ground, the U.S. is further bolstering its regional presence with the deployment of approximately 5,000 additional military personnel. This move comes as the administration maintains a policy of high-intensity deterrence, utilizing both strategic aerial assets and expanded troop levels to contain Iranian influence and secure global shipping lanes.
